adventures in gouache

Finished the Pucca test today (Blaarg!) so I celebrated by taking another run at traditional media. For those of you who would like to try traditional media, I have stumbled across some important procedural steps to help you along.

1. Get your materials organized on your drawing table.
2. Paint your masterpiece
3. Realize it's mediocre at best, and overwork it.
4. Despair
5. Scan it in and throw every photoshop trick you know at it.

And there you go. What I really like about painting is zooming WAY in because the incidental textural detail is cool. I'm trying to think of some way I can use that effect intentionally.

**EDIT**

I messed around with the colour today seeing if I could clarify the image without putting more than 15 minutes into it. So I blue'd it up, made the dividing wall clearer (Yes, she's supposed to be being walled up) and put cheesy 10-second cobwebs in the corners.

Birdies

There it is. I'm making an effort to understand birds as opposed to assuming I'll magically understand them when it's necessary. Are you happy Gordon? Reference!

I'm alive...

But I certainly haven't posted anything for a while. This is because I'm been slaving away on ye olde portfolio. And now I have to find time to start the Pucca test. In the meantime, just to the keep the blog going, this is a really quick marker thing I did at lunch today. With the added bonus of having a 10 minute colour job smacked on it!

The MEDVSA

Totally on this gods and monsters thing and totally enamoured with my new mostest favoritest texturing trick. One of these days, I will learn discretion with it. But for now everything must be textured!

**EDIT**

I made a couple changes, notably the sword and plume which were bugging me in the previous version. Took a little more red out and upped the contrast.

I'm a GODFATHER!

Sean Corleone. That's me. SO I present to you the child which I am charged with giving a good Christian eduaction. I was clearly the best choice for this.

Also here's some pictures from the surfing trip. It was the event that totally made my summer. Funny how there's no pictures of me "standing" on the board though, huh? Thanks for the pics, Lalena!
